The last couple of days I've been trying to get my leg back in shape. I'm supposed to begin putting 50 then 75% of my weight back on my knee and gradually work up to walking on it. Well, Monday it felt really great and I walked on it most of the day around the hotel. It felt good and I could put pressure on it. The knee seemed to have better support and bending better. By supper time, I was back to my crutches because it just felt tired.
Tuesday we went apple picking with some friends. We ended up with a great group of four ladies and six toddlers. It was so much fun. Well, there is no way I could have gone through the field and picked apples on crutches. Since I had good luck on Monday and it was feeling great again, I just walked. I spent pretty much the entire day walking on my leg and it did well. It actually felt strengthed because I walked on uneven ground and had to steady myself on apples and raising kids up in the trees.
Wednesday morning, today that is, my knee again felt great. I noticed though the knee seemed to need me to limp a little more than days before. I hadn't walked on it too much until we went to the library around 1:30 pm. By 3:00 when we left I was beginning to limp more. It seemed tired and the spot just below my knee on the left was beginning to hurt more.
We went to Incredible Pizza tonight for supper. I managed to get to the buffet and get my food and back to the table before I just had to call it quits. I'm back on my crutches now. It seems stiff and sore. Even though I'm still only putting about 60-75% of my weight on my leg, it is really achy now. I'm not sure if this is part of the process of retraining this unused portion of my body, or if the bone is still not healed (still broken). I think I'm going to call the nurse tomorrow and check. Until we talk, I'm back to crutches. I'm sad. The freedom I experienced on Monday and Tuesday was great!
Good news to share... the house is coming along quickly now. They finished the garage and attic on Monday. The downstairs was emptied out on Tuesday. The ceilings were painted today in the whole house. Next are the downstairs walls and stairwell painting, replacing carpet and new linoluem. They made it sound like it wouldn't take too much longer at this point. I'm not getting my hopes up. I did get to choose a nice light brown color for the walls downstairs. I think it will look very cozy and inviting.
