He Understands

I had a "my baby's growing up" moment this morning.

7:30 am is just too early. Still, that's when the smell entered my room. Quite often in the morning Little One is stinky. It had a powerful aroma this morning. After I laid there a bit waking up, I got up to change his diaper. I didn't say much because I was half asleep. I'm glad I didn't or I wouldn't have heard all that Little One had to say.

"Oh my, you stink, honey."

"I stink."

I grabbed some wet wipes and sat down on the floor next to him. A small amount had leaked onto the floor. As I went to wipe it up...

"Pee-pee. Toilet. Clean Mom. Clean. Yeah Mom." Clap, clap.

When I've put underwear on him we discuss it. Pee-pee toilet yes, underwear no. His comment... does he understand?

"Lean back honey. Lay down, let me change your diaper."

"I poot. Toilet Mom."

I cleaned him up. He grabbed Elmo (who shares in his tasks now) and walked into the bathroom.

"Elmo potty toilet." Clonck. "Mama sound!"

"Yes honey, the lid makes a loud sound. Setup Elmo, let's go potty."

He setup the potty seat and step stool. "Want down, want down." Always the wrong direction. He got up, did his thing, came down, and ran into his room. "I did it! I did it!"

He wanted to go potty on the toilet. He understands. My baby's growing up.
