Projects

I've watched numerous home makeover shows on TV where they have gone through the house in a matter of 24-48 hours and totally organized it. Room by room they've gone through every bit of stuff and trashed, kept or gave it away. How come then, for us at least, it takes many hours of working very hard to accomplish nothing?

I purposed this evening to get Hubby into the garage to accomplish two things. One, get Christmas and baby stuff up into the attic. Two, to seperate garage sale things. In all, we spent right at three hours cleaning and really accomplished very little. The few boxes for the attic went up. A surprising very few things ended up in the garage sale pile and the rest still looms. In all, we did manage to push things around enough that at 11:30 pm, we pulled my car into the garage.

So the garage sale will still have to wait, the mounds of boxes of stuff I haven't used in years still stares at me, and another project I have begun (that will need more hours than I'm willing to give to finish) has been added to my list. Why is it that now that I'm a stay-at-home mom that the projects are getting bigger and more numerous instead of disappearing? The laundry is NEVER done. Start one load of dishes just so you can dirty more. The vaccum is run every couple of days because of the dirt. (How come I never cared about dirty floors this much before?) The stack of papers on my desk never goes away. And the stack of filing gets bigger every day. Most SAHMs have a hobby they do. Ha! I'm lucky I don't. I have too many other things calling out my name.

And yet, somehow I have enough hours in a day to do what really needs to be done. Thank you, Lord, for the reminder that tomorrow will take care of itself. I only need to bask in today and the things that matter. The piles of laundry and dishes will in time get done. The filing will get done, definitely by tax time. I'm grateful we each have an abundance of clothes. I'm thankful that we share so many meals together as a family and that there is food in our pantry. Dirty floors, that's okay. That means that this home is a busy place and full of love. For one more day...the garage can wait.
