Little One shares my love of swimming! We've been going out to our backyard most every afternoon to swim in his little kiddy pool. Yesterday, I babysat the little boy of our babysitter. He is a year older than Little One and they are great friends. Well, this little guy loves to swim as much, or more, than Little One. They spent a good hour splashing around in the pool and chasing each other around the backyard. I turned on the sprinkler and would use my thumb to spray the water through the air as they ran through it. We had a pretty good time.
Tonight we went to our friends Rob & Rachel's apartment to go swimming. I have been wanting to see if there was a way that he could learn to swim on his own since he's outgrowing his boat. I saw a little girl, almost 3, wearing arm bands and using a swim ring and she was swimming around the pool and doing very well. So at various times, I've picked up arm bands and swim rings.
Tonight at the pool we tried it out. Oh did he complain about the arm bands at first, but he absolutely loved the swim ring. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture, but we'll get one next time. He did superbly swimming on his own. I felt he was very brave to do so. At first he didn't like the independence and would cry for me to hold him, but the more he did it, the more he loved it. A couple times he even leaned forward and stuck his face in the water. In the bathtub at home and even in the little kiddy pool, I've been teaching him to kick his legs. Tonight he actually could kick his legs and get from one side of the pool to the other all by himself (short length).
