An Emotional Moment

God gave me a soft heart. When I've had enough stress or I'm completely spent, I spend an entire day too emotional to do much of anything. I spend the whole day in tears. Luckily, this doesn't happen too often.

I had one of those days on Friday. McDs had worked me all week from 5 pm to 1 am. I was worn out and exhausted. I had slept till noon on Friday morning. Little One had spent the entire morning in front of the tube and playing in his room. A few minutes after I woke, I had been sitting with Little One enjoying the current telecast. The phone rang. It was McDs yet again. "Can you stay past 11 tonight and work till 1 am?" Once again that meant another 5-1 shift. She could hear in my voice that I didn't sound right. I told her I had just woken up that I was completely exhausted. "Well, we don't want to wear you out." Inside I laughed. "What if you come in at 6 instead of 5?" Woohoo, I thought, sarcastically, a whole hour later! "I guess so." After all, I'll be there and what is another extremely long shift of McDs.

I hung up the phone and that's when it happened. The tears started flowing and I started bawling. Little One had taken refuge in his bed while I was on the phone. He saw me crying and came running over. "Mama, mama." He climbed up in my lap, threw his arms and legs around me and wrapped me in one of his incredible bear hugs. My heart leaped. The tears flowed harder. He looked up at me and was moved with compassion. I could see it in his eyes. He started wiping my tears and then hugged me tight again.

A few moments later, he threw something across the room that hit me. I had to reprimand him, of course. His tears led to my tears and once again, we sat in the chair in a huge bear hug, both of us crying. I don't think I'll ever forget this moment.
