Since I lost my job last month, I changed my job title to homemaker.
Yesterday and today were fun and really made me feel like a SAHM.Yesterday, since I had the carpets cleaned, I cleared a bunch of stuff out of the living room. As I was moving things around for the carpet cleaning, I got in the mood to try something new in the kitchen. I somehow managed to get the two leaves out of the table by myself then pushed it together. I moved the table out to the center of the room. Then I moved the snack cart and microwave over the wall where the table was. I then scrubbed a few nasty areas of the linoleum by hand. I put a beautiful purple floral cloth on the table and a flower vase in the center. I then stood back to admire how beautiful and how much bigger the room looked.
Little One stayed with my parents last night. This morning, I woke up to an empty, far too quiet house. I took a long hot shower and pampered myself with lotion. After dressing, I balanced the checkbook and paid some bills. When I came down the stairs, I was thrilled to see how clean my carpet and new kitchen were. Later on, as Little One was sleeping, I set out to do dishes. Since there were only a few, I did them by hand. That is rare these days with two men to keep in line. I then started the task of making potato soup. As the potatoes were boiling, I made two pitchers of Kool-aid, one of juice, and then put the rest of the ingredients in the crockpot for the soup. After adding the boiled potates to the mix and turning the pot on, I finished the dishes (again by hand) then stood back to admire my clean, attractive, comfortable looking kitchen. And remembered again the broken washer, how sad!
My next task was to tackle some sewing projects I needed to get started on. I have two comforters to repair, one outfit for Little One, a button, a hole in a stuffed animal, and a couple other small tasks. So I grabbed me a drink and snack, my sewing kit and a few of the items and sat down on the couch to get started. It felt good to be sewing again, a passion that had been put on the sidelines for a long time. When Little One woke up, I had only completed his outfit and the stuffed animal. But hey, it's a start. Start with the little projects first, isn't that how it goes. I certainly feel like I accomplished more getting two little things done instead of only a few inches on one comforter. So the button, nightstand, and the two comforters are still waiting for mending. ...Maybe tomorrow during Little One's nap.
