Cooking Traditions

Thank you, Mom. Thank you, Grandma. As I prepare meals for my family, I often have fond memories of preparing those meals in your kitchen. Thank you for your countless hours of preparing food for me and taking the time to teach me your skills.

Tonight, I used hot water in the sink to thaw a chicken and some frozen meat. Thanks for that tip, Mom.

I then boiled the chicken in the crockpot to make one of Grandma's recipes, chicken casserole. This has been a long-time favorite of mine. As I deboned the chicken, I thought of how many other moms in the history of the world had to stand in the kitchen to prepare a chicken like this. Thankfully, I didn't have to behead or remove feathers from it. :) I'll bet those moms didn't have a cat dancing around their feet wanting scraps from the trash can!

As I pulled out the wishbone, I remembered exciting times of making wishes and wondering who was going to get the better half of the bone. Unfortunately, the cat got a hold of the bone before Hubby and I could partake of this old tradition.

The chicken is in the fridge for now. Tomorrow, I'll throw together the ingredients and we'll enjoy Grandma's chicken casserole as a family. Blessings and thanks for the memories!
